Nicola Coles-Carr IBCLC

Specialist Lactation Support

About

Background

Following a Masters of Pharmacy degree, I worked as a hospital pharmacist for my early professional life. While also working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and an Independent Prescribing Certificate in stroke medicine. I enjoyed working in the hospital and had a thirst for learning.

I became a mother to my first child in 2012. We experienced several issues during our  breastfeeding journey with my first born, having to reach out for breastfeeding support.

From then, I became interested in all things breastfeeding and lactation and I started training to become a breastfeeding counsellor. I went on to have my twins in 2017 and my gained knowledge helped me to successfully and exclusively breastfeed them too. I accredited as a breastfeeding counsellor in October 2019 and became passionate about providing support locally and nationally. I worked towards gaining the required experience; volunteering in groups, and supporting families online and via calls and messages, and completing 120 hours of the lactation education required, to become an IBCLC.

Now as a fully insured, qualified IBCLC, I enjoy supporting other families with their feeding journeys.  I live with my husband and 3 boys in a village near Thirsk and provide quality lactation support throughout the surrounding areas.
